Privacy & cookies

Short version: we collect as little as we can, we ask before we count you, and we never sell anything about you.

Draft. The providers below are the ones we have selected, but this text still has to be reviewed by legal counsel before launch.

Who we are

Pride Museum Brussels VZW/ASBL, enterprise number BE 0789.456.123, Rue des Brigittines 1, 1000 Brussels. Data controller for this website. Contact: contact@pridemuseum.eu.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies until you choose. If you accept, Google Analytics, described below, counts visits and pages viewed with two cookies kept for 13 months after your last visit. If you decline, nothing is set and the banner will not ask again on this device. Accepting unlocks two more things. It unlocks the Google Maps view of the queer map, described below; declining keeps the drawing we serve ourselves. And it turns on reCAPTCHA, described below, which sets one necessary cookie of its own while it runs. Declining does not stop you using any form on this site. You can change your mind by clearing site data in your browser. Your choice itself is stored in your browser, not on our servers.

What we collect and why

Newsletter. Your email address, held by Brevo so we can send you about four emails a year. Every email has an unsubscribe link. Legal basis: consent.

Tickets. Bought on Weezevent, who process your name, email and payment under their own privacy policy. We receive attendee names and emails to run the event and, if you tick the box, to invite you to the next one. Legal basis: contract.

Donations. Taken by Stripe, in the donate form on our Support page. Nothing is requested from Stripe until you press Give; then your browser loads Stripe’s payment form from Stripe, which sees your IP address and sets its own cookies to prevent fraud. Your card or bank details go to Stripe alone and never reach us. We receive your name, email, address, amount and date so we can send a receipt and, for gifts over €40, the tax certificate the law requires us to issue. Stripe processes your payment under its own privacy policy. Legal basis: contract and legal obligation.

Forms and email. What you write to us — your name, your email address and your message — for as long as it takes to deal with it and for one year after. It is stored in Firestore, Google’s database, which we run for this site. A copy is also emailed to our own mailbox, which Google Workspace hosts for us, and is deleted on the same schedule. We do not keep your IP address. Legal basis: legitimate interest.

Google Analytics. If you accept cookies, your browser loads Google Analytics from Google, which counts the pages you view, how you reached us, the kind of device and browser you use, and roughly where you are: the country and city, worked out from your IP address, which Google does not store. It sets two cookies, _ga and one beginning _ga_, kept for 13 months after your last visit, and Google keeps what it counted for at most 14 months. Its advertising features are off, so nothing it counts is used to show you ads. If you decline, or have JavaScript turned off, nothing is requested from Google and nothing is counted, and if you change your mind the two cookies are removed. Google acts as our processor and may handle this data in the United States, under the Data Privacy Framework between the EU and the United States. Legal basis: consent.

reCAPTCHA. If you accept cookies, Google’s reCAPTCHA Enterprise looks at how a form was filled in and returns a score saying how likely it is that a person filled it. We store that score beside your message so we can tell real post from machine post. It is never a gate: whatever the score, and whether or not Google answers at all, your message reaches us. If you decline, or if you have JavaScript turned off, no score is taken, nothing is requested from Google, and the form works exactly the same. Google acts as our processor here, under the Google Cloud data processing terms. Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the forms usable.

Embedded content. Videos (YouTube, loaded through youtube-nocookie.com) may set their own cookies when you play them. We use privacy-enhanced embeds where the provider offers them.

The queer map. The map of Brussels on our homepage is a drawing we generate ourselves from OpenStreetMap data, served from this site. Nothing is requested from anyone else to show it. If you accept cookies, you can switch it to a Google Maps view of the real city; only then does your browser contact Google, which sees your IP address and may set its own cookies. Decline, or simply leave the switch alone, and Google is never contacted. You can switch back to the drawing at any time.
