Accessibility
This statement covers pridemuseum.eu. For the building, see Visit.
Pride Museum Brussels wants everyone to be able to use this website. We aim for WCAG 2.1 level AA across every page, and we check the site against it with automated tests and with a keyboard.
What we have done
Text and background colours meet AA contrast, and so do the edges of text fields and the markers on our map. Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus ring. Images that carry information have alternative text; decorative ones, and photos inside a link whose words already say where it goes, are hidden from screen readers. Headings follow a logical order and the page language is declared, with changes of language marked.
Pages can be zoomed to 200 percent, and at 320 pixels wide everything still fits in one column without scrolling sideways. Form fields use 16-pixel text so that a phone does not zoom in on them. Animation respects your reduced-motion setting, and nothing that moves by itself lasts more than five seconds. Forms have visible labels, say which fields are optional, and mark a field that needs correcting. Videos hosted on YouTube load only once you accept cookies or press play.
Our queer map works with a keyboard alone. Tab reaches the places as a single stop, the arrow keys move from one place to the next, Enter opens a place's details and Escape closes them; with the map itself focused, the arrow keys pan it and plus and minus zoom it. If you switch the map to the Google view, only the picture underneath changes: the places stay the same buttons, and the Google layer is hidden from screen readers and from the keyboard.
What does not yet meet the standard
There is no skip link: from the keyboard, the menu and the language switch come before the content on every page. Screen readers can jump straight to the content, which is marked as the page's main region.
Our videos do not have captions or audio description yet.
On the queer map, places near the top and bottom edges sit under a soft white fade and are harder to see until you move the map; a place that receives keyboard focus is always brought clear of it.
Some text — captions, dates, form labels and the small links in the footer — is smaller than 16 pixels, and some controls are smaller than 44 by 44 pixels; the smallest are spaced so that each can be pressed without touching the next. Error messages come from your browser, in its own words.
Booking and payment pages run by other companies are outside our control; we choose providers that state AA conformance.
